PanArmenian: YEREVAN SUGGESTED MOSCOW TO JOIN MANAGEMENT OF ARMENIAN ATOMIC POWER STATION

Yesterday Armenian president Robert Kocharian and Russian prime minister Mikhail Kasyanov approved the scheme, which would let the Armenian Atomic Power Station pay off the debts to Russian providers of raw materials, “Vedomosti” Russian newspaper writes. According to the newspaper information, the station owes $32 million to “TVEL” Russian concern for supplying raw stuff – breeder elements. Another $8 million are necessary for paying for the rods of “TVEL” concern not to admit stoppage of the station. As a representative of one of energy companies of Russia told the newspaper, Armenia had suggested Russia to get involved in the atomic plant management in order to cover the nonpayment. The final approval of the scheme will be received February 4, when the sitting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation is held in Yerevan.
