Noyan Tapan: VOLUME OF CARGO TRANSPORTATIONS BY ARMENIAN RAILROAD ONE AND A HALF TIMES INCREASED

YEREVAN, January 9 (Noyan Tapan). The volume of cargo transportations by Armenian railway totaled to 2 mln. 14,000 tons in 2002, which is 616 tons more than last year. The Director of the “Railroad Transportations” CJSC Arshak Davtian informed NT that these data are the highest within the whole post-Soviet period. 1 mln. 23 thousand tons of the total volume are the internal republican transportations and export, import is equal to 991,000 tons. The ready-made products and building materials are mostly exported. Mr. Davtian also announced that the passenger transportation by railway totaled 1 mln. 253,000 passengers last year, which is by 100,000 passengers more than in 2001. It is noteworthy that the Armenian Railroad 900 kilometers long and needs about $1.5 bln. for capital reconstruction according to specialists. Partial repairs are funded from the $16 mln. credit of the WB.
