Some 7,209 Armenian citizens sought refugee asylum in foreign countries in the first 10 months of the year, a 4 percent rise over the same period of time last year, an official of the UNHCR Armenia office said, Armenpress reported.
In October alone 612 Armenians sought asylum in developed countries. Armenia comes second, after Russia, in the number of its citizens seeking asylum in foreign countries among other CIS member countries.
Armenia’s neighbors Georgia and Azerbaijan come third and sixth respectively. Some 1,925 applications were submitted to Austrian authorities, 1,002 to US, 790 to France and 788 to German authorities by Armenian citizens in the mentioned time span.
