On September 12 some Armenian news media reported that the Primate of the Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Archbishop Gevork Seraydarian died, adding also that the Georgian prosecutors have launched an investigation into what caused the death of the Primate, but the Mother See Echmiadzin has reportedly denied a permission for making an autopsy.
On Friday, September 13 the Mother See disseminated an official press release which said that Echmiadzin has no information about launching an investigation into the death of the deceased Primate. It also dismissed allegations that Echmiadzin did not allow autopsy.
The late Archbishop Seraydarian will be buried in the church yard of Saint George Armenian church in Tbilisi, capital of Georgia, next to the tombs of other prominent Armenians, buried there.
We would also like to add that Reverend Vazgen Mirzakhanian has been appointed new Primate of the Georgian Diocese. He latter has already paid a visit to Catholicos Illia, head of Georgian Orthodox Church, handing him over a message by Catholicos Karekin II.
