YEREVAN, JULY 30, ARMENPRESS: Father Ter-Ghevond, head of Christian education center at the headquarters of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Echmiadzin told that the overall number of officially registered religious organizations in Armenia was 51. The 1997 amended law on religious organizations demands from the organizations to have at least 200 members to seek registration.
The religious organizations and sects can be conventionally divided into two major groups; closely related to Christianity and non – Christian sects.
The biggest religious community in Armenia, not counting the flock of the Apostolic Church, belongs to Armenian Catholics- 180,000, the Evangelists can boast of having 5,000, Baptists-2,000, Jehovah’s Witnesses-12,000 members.
