YEREVAN, July 16 (Noyan Tapan). The Union of National Unity
has urged the RA president to demand from the UN that a special
session should be called for condemning operations of Israel and
imposing sanctions on this country. In its statement, the
organization also urges the president to address a note of
protest to Israel with a demand that troops should be
immediately withdrawn from the territory of the Armenian
Patriarchy of Jerusalem, and the Armenian embassies in all
countries should demand from the government that the aggression
of Israel should be condemned and that troops should be
withdrawn from the occupied territories.
The Union of National Unity also urges the Catholicos of
All Armenians and the Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia
to turn to the UN, to the priors of all sister-churches, to the
world organizations of churches and other international
instances in order that they would condemn the aggressive
operations of Israel, would demand that troops should be
withdrawn from the occupied territories. The Union of National
Unity turned to the Armenians of the whole world with an appeal
to demand that the heads of the countries where they live should
condemn Israeli aggressions and that the Armenian territories in
the Holy Land should be returned.
The occasion for such a statement became the fact that
“Israel, defying all the criteria of international law, seized
from the Armenian Patriarchy Armenian land-plots and the office
in the Land, which had for nearly 2,000 years belonged to the
entire Armenian nation.”
