TORONTO, JULY 5, 2002.(ARMINFO): Atom Egoyan’s “Ararat,” which chronicles the making of a historical film about Armenia, will open the 27th installment of the Toronto International Film Festival. Festival Director Piers Handling said the choice between the latest works from Egoyan (“Ararat”) and David Cronenberg (“Spider”), both of which bowed in Cannes, was difficult, but that “Ararat” was judged more suitable for the high-profile opening-night slot.
