TEHRAN (Armenpress)—The Tehran Times reported that prominent Iranian-born Armenian composer and conductor Loris Tchknavorian was awarded on Wednesday with Iran’s highest medal for his outstanding achievements in music performance.
The ceremony was held in Vahdat Hall in Tehran with the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ahmad Masjed. The Artists Evaluation Council awarded the medal to the composer after an evaluation of his pieces.
Tchknavorian was the orchestra conductor of the symphonies “Shirin and Farhad,” and “Khosrov and Shirin,” both based on Iranian folklore, which were played at the start of the ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Tchknavorian praised Iranians for, as he said “the positive view toward art and artists.” He also commented, “this is why music occupies a special position in the lives of Iranians.”
Tchknavorian has performed successfully in many international orchestras such as in Vienna, London, Paris, New York and Tokyo. Tchknavorian was appointed conductor of the Armenian National Orchestra in Yerevan in 1989. In the year 2000, he resigned from the job and has worked in various international orchestras since.
