ArmenPress:ARMENIAN PEACE-KEEPING BATTALION TO ATTEND NATO EXERCISES

YEREVAN, JUNE 11, ARMENPRESS: A group of Armenian officers is leaving today for neighboring Georgia to join there with counterparts from Austria, Azerbaijan, Canada, Ukraine, Greece, Lithuania, Romania, Britain, Bulgaria, the USA, Turkey, Moldova, Hungary, Uzbekistan and Georgia to attend large-scale, multinational military exercises in Georgia, within the framework of NATO’s Partnership for Peace Program, called the “Best Effort – 2002”.

The contingent of Armenian soldiers from the peace-keeping battalion will leave for Georgian Vaziani military base June 14 to join there with some 700 soldiers from NATO member countries and another eight partner countries of the North Atlantic Alliance.

These will be the second multinational NATO exercises to be held in Georgia. The first were conducted near Black Sea port of Poti in 2001 summer.
