Ministry of Science & Education introducing IT

CONCEPT OF INTRODUCING INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPED
BY MINISTRY OF SCIENCE AND EDUCATION

YEREVAN, March 29 (Noyan Tapan). The forum called
“Formation of Active Society of Future Generation in the Age of
Information Technologies” started in Yerevan on March 29. The
forum is held as part of the “Armenia: Mutual Relations-2000”
program being implemented by the American “Project Harmony”
company in Armenia.

Emphasizing the necessity for the Armenian school-children
to improve their Internet knowledge through educational
programs, US Ambassador to Armenia John Ordway said that the
Internet knowledge will help the growing generation “both to
satisfy their need of information and find friends in different
parts of the world.”

According to Head of the General Education Department of
the Ministry of Science and Education Norair Ghoukassian, as a
result of introducing new subjects and deepened curricula into
schools, a necessity of teachers’ re-training, new text-books
and new teaching methods has arisen. According to him, the
corresponding commission of the Ministry is working out a
concept of introducing information technologies, including a
number of criteria of teaching “Informatics”, curricula, etc.
Efforts are also being made towards the development,
introduction and popularization of education by correspondence,
as well as the attestation on the basis of participation in
these programs.
