TORONTO (Horizon)—During a special event last Sunday at the Toronto Armenian Center, a new compact disc entitled “Louys Zvart” by musician Isabel Bayrakdarian was unveiled. The new CD was produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Company Records.
The CD contains performances by the artist, under the direction of conductor Raffi Armenian,of religious songs and verses as performed during a concert on Sept. 16, organized by the Canadian Prelacy. Bayrakdarian was accompanied on the piano by Bedros Shoujounian.
Welcoming remarks at the event were made by Nairi Shahinian, who introduced Canadian Prelate, Catholicosal Locum Tenens Bishop Khajag Hagopian; Pastor of the Toronto Church Right Rev. Shahe Panossian, the artist and CBC Records chief, Rodney Bernard.
Bayrakdarian’s biography was presented by Lenna Beylerian, while the CD and the music was reviewed by Sarkis Hamboyan.
In his remarks, CBC Record’s Bernard announced that the new CD will be a part of the record company’s list of new classical releases.
Right Rev. Hagopian praised the artist for her work and also commended her efforts as an advocate for the Armenian Cause during her public appearances, especially during an interview regarding the release of the CD with CBC Radio.
At the conclusion of the event, Bayrakdarian autographed copies of the CD.
The CD was released on March 21 at a special premier party hosted by CBC Records at L’atelier Grigorian.
“Many thanks to the CBC for believing in the power of this music and for taking the risk to record then previously unknown repertoire. With the CBC’s prestigious presence in the recording industry and in the market, this music will have tremendous exposure to tens of
thousands, whether it’s in Canada or abroad.
Many thanks to the sound engineers and producers who spent hours editing and balancing in order to create this CD. With the amount of Armenian music which they heard over the last couple of months, I think they could now be officially called honorary Armenians. All that’s
missing is the “IAN” at the end of their/your last names. This CD is a labor of love, and I share it with you!” expressed Bayrakdarian.
