The bill aiming retaliation against France passes in Foreign Relations Committee

Turkish Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday approved the exact wording of the text of a bill entitled “The law against international accusations, claims and manipulations” and accusing France of committing genocide against Turks in Anatolia in the 1920s during France’s occupation of southern Turkey.

The bill was first discussed last Thursday in the meeting of the Foreign Relations Committee, but deputies were not able to agree on the exact wording of the text. As a result of the debates, Mehmet Ali Irtemcelik’s proposal was accepted and committee Chairman Kamran Inan was charged to prepare a new text. Kamran Inan completed his preparation last Friday.

According to the approved bill, Turkey denies all allegations of the so-called Armenian genocide and says it will see insistence on this issue as a hostile attempt. Here are some of the important articles of the bill:

* Turkey condemns France and other countries who used the Armenian population against Turks during World War I.
* Turkey condemns all support given to the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia (ASALA) terrorist organization.
* Turkey condemns the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh and Azeri territories and the Armenian massacre of Azeri people.
* Turkey condemns the genocide committed against Bosnians and declares that France and other European countries have responsibilities in this inhuman event.
* The historical facts related with all humanity can not be changed by political will.
* The government takes necessary precautions to enforce this law.

Now the bill will be debated in the General Assembly of Turkish Parliament.
